How the external environment shapes the organization ( BOSTON PIZZA) Essay

How the external environment shapes the organization ( BOSTON PIZZA) - Essay Example Boston Pizza has a strong brand positioning and is the first chain of restaurants to offer fat-free menu items (Henry 234). The restaurants have huge televisions and spacious parking areas thus appealing to the middle income consumers. The external business environment shapes the operations of Boston Pizza and the strategic choices of the management. The external environment is beyond the control of the management and strategic choices must be made to adapt to the fast changing external environment in order for the restaurant chain to attain competitive edge in the market (Henry 172). The external business environment consists of the political environment, economic environment, social-cultural environment, technological environment, legal environment and ecological environment. PESTLE (political, economic, social-cultural, technological, legal and ecological) environment analysis tool will be useful in analysing and understanding how the external business environment shapes Boston Pizza. The political environment entails the political stability, the trade restrictions and attitudes of governments towards businesses, pressure groups, conflicts, and wars. The current political environment in Canada, United States and Mexico is stable, but there are different pressure groups such as anti-obesity campaigners that have been advocating for health eating habits (Henry 78). The Canadian government has implemented several measures that aim at protecting consumer interests and welfare in order to safeguard the health of the population. In this case, Boston Pizza must implement health-conscious menus in order to attract higher number of customers and adapt to the changing political environment (Kachru 84). The restaurant chain is capable of expanding to cities that have political stability and minimal pressure group influences. However, the government may

Federalist Papers Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words

Federalist Papers - Essay Example The overall purpose was not only to reshape the constitution of the country but also to ensure the ratification of the US as a combined State. James Madison, Alexander Hamilton as well as John Jay are considered as the authors of these papers though at the time of their publication, the original authorship of these articles were kept secret. Out of all these articles, federalist paper 10 and 51 are considered as most important papers outlining the broader scope and structure of the constitution of the country besides presenting plausible arguments in favor of the formation of one large State. Federalist 10 actually dealt with how to deal with small factions or interest groups and what should be the overall structure of the State to overcome or control such factions. It is written in continuation of the Federalist 9 and also outlines as to how the existence of such groups can tear apart the whole republic. Federalist 51 discusses as to how an effective system of checks and balance as well as the separation of the powers within the government. This paper will therefore discuss both these papers and will explore some of the key arguments made in these papers. Federalist # 10 Federalist 10 discussed extensively the role of the factions and how they can actually damage a republic. Madison was of the view that there are two ways through which such factions can be dealt with. He was of the view that either the very cause of the factions should be removed or the damage caused by such factions should be controlled. 1. His arguments therefore were largely in favor of how to balance both the aspects of factions and devise mechanism to deal with them. One of the key arguments made by the Madison outline that such factions cannot be eliminated altogether because majority can also form such factions. The republic according to Madison however, should be large and diverse enough while at the same time maintain the enough commonality. Madison argued in this paper that a direct democracy would be necessary in place of indirect democracy. Further, he was of the view that the representative democracy should be implemented in order to protect the interests of the individuals from the majority rule. (Meyerson, 2008) The role of anti-federalist however, should also be taken into consideration in the wake of their overall stance on the formation of a central authority. Madison throughout this paper argued that the formation of a large republic is essential in order to control the influence of such faction groups. Anti-federalists also argued that a diverse republic would be difficult to survive and therefore advocated giving more powers to the States based on the notion of locality. (Amar, 1993) The arguments of the anti-federalist can also be considered as interesting in the sense that they argued that the states a large state of the size of United States would eventually fail. As such the notion that a large republic is necessary in order to control the influe nce of the factions would not provide any credible or long term solution to the problem. Anti-federalist view also holds that if the republic is consolidated and a larger State is created, the overall chances of the representation of the people would be reduced. They argue that its through local participation that the representation of citizens could be ensured. In nutshell, Federalist 10 argued that the factions and their influence in the society and political activity could be controlled through the creation of a larger republic managed through representative democracy. Federalist#51 Federalist 51 is another important essay in the series of Federalist Papers outlining the need to have a proper check and balance system. Further it also outlines

Developing Education Creativity and Innovation

Developing Education Creativity and Innovation Development of education creativity and innovation in developing countries Abstract With this paper, we want provide information of how developing countries can improve the education. Ecuador has the same problems of education than other countries. It is necessary use new way of teaching that can help in the ambit of education. Creativity is a necessary value that currently has to be developed in the educational process. We could say that it is as important in education as literacy and we should give it the same interest now that creativity has become a factor or an essential requirement to innovate in any type of work. Creativity can be fomenting through several methods starting in the schools changing the typical teaching due the most of  children are losing that ability because they are afraid to make mistakes. Moreover, we could say  that education makes us less creative but also is necessary to impart artistic sense as an important  factor to avoid the afraid to follow your dreams. Also, we found that the time to interact with  other people is more valu able than make homework during all day. Introduction Actually, a most important problem with school is education killer many ideas of children only focus in create smart people, and it is not appearing changes due the great companies think to need this people to work. Today Education has had the same problems for some times because it continues using the same form as formerly used to do. The education does not use new methodologies that can work very well in different countries. Around the world all education system has the same structure letting down the art education, when the subject is more important (do school kill creativity, s/n). Education has a hierarchy and always art is in the background, this is the reason why many people do not study dance or picture school are only focus in subjects that they Education system thinks are important. The same educational system around the world because great companies require more staff and more qualified for their jobs, they require smart people. Some companies are chemical or biological or it may be technology where they use many maths that is reason which education remains the same for a long time. Therefore, for students from developed countries develop their creative and innovative skills, it is ne cessary that schools use new ways of teaching, impart artistic education and provide students with periods of interaction so they have more opportunities to learn at home and by interacting with the society in general. Use new ways of teaching For a long time, system education use the same way to teach using new technologies or application and platforms that can help to learn more fast. Young people can use new technologies and application they can use it. Some school started to use these technologies and they have had better results, the many students use correctly those news platforms more than adults. So, that school can use applications or platforms or can implement new methods o learn that are new ways to teach. A better idea to teach is use the technology to our favor. School can accede to platforms or application that young people today use in their ordinal life. For example, USAs school student use khan academy to help students, if student did not learn in their class, the student can use khan academy to learn by himself from the comfort their home. (Segal, 2016).   In the same way, a student can use their cellphone to watch videos or calculator or other things to learn more as Duolingo that is an application that can be downloaded in smartphones to learn new leagues. Other idea to use in school could be to implement new methods of teaching as the case where the students are owner of their time. To sum up school use different way to teach to students used different methods or new technologies or applications in their cellphone or computers. Khan academy or Duolingo are a best solution to young people who spend a lot of time in the world of technology. Other way also is implement other type to reach like is Innova school which student are owners of all their time. Developing countries need applicate others ways of learning more updated for the guys of this 21st century. Impart artistic education Today, many students that now are teachers or engineer or doctors could have been professional sing or dancer but system education has not allowed. Besides, school continue teaching with the same education system of year ago, that depressed artistic education. In other hand, artistic education help to students to have fun and have more knowledge about different things that are not only concentrate in science subjects. Hence, Artistic education is important to develop students skill and to have knowledge about more different subject. First of all, artistic education can help to develop student skill because they can choose the subject their likes the most. Finland has a better curriculum which student can access to learn dance, music, picture and he can develop his abilities correctly in the area he most likes (Doyle, 2016). Second of all, the students can learn more things about other subject. Also they have more knowledge about other topics that they did not know. They can develop in different fields not only a science as is the case today in all schools in the world. As a result, Schools can provide artistic education and thus help many students to develop fully their skills, but also to know different subjects and expand their knowledge. Students receiving artistic classes can develop and reinforce little knowledge about subjects such as singing, painting and more. Also, receiving this class the students learn new subjects that they did not know and the students can enjoy them. Students need to have enough knowledge of several topics to help them open their minds, and therefore help them to decide on what to be in their future. Periods of interaction so they have more opportunities to learn at home and by interacting with the society in general. Students need time to assimilate class information because it is both information-intensive and complex. In many countries students have little recess time and in some places like Ecuador in schools there is no class break time in class just a small recess in the middle of the morning. This does not help the students to process the information well and tend not to understand the class well. Therefore, in order for students to have periods of interaction, fewer duties should be sent and there should be breaks between classes. It is important to break in each class because the student can go out to give their brain a respite since much information can disturb it. The recess is the most important of the classes where the student can absorb the information of the class and give himself a rest (Ossola, 2014). Another important point for students to have more time to interact with the environment is to send little homework because students have to spend a lot of time solving them instead of interacting with their environment (Doyle, 2016). School children need to go out and explore their world to look for in the future to be able to create or investigate. To conclude students, need time to interact with all their environment browsing at home can only be achieved if schools break between each class and send fewer homework. The recess is very important so that the students can take a break and imagine, think and order well their ideas that the student has. Less homework means more time to interact to socialize, to learn is important because they are children and should go out and explore. Students need time to learn that schools deny this. It must be changed if they want students to be creative or innovative because they do not have this time and we deprive them of enjoying the world of being children. Conclusion In conclusion, in order for developing countries to think freely and develop their creativity and innovation capacities, it is important that educational institutions teach or use new learning models also to impart more subjects such as artistic education, and most important of all, they need periods of Interaction to interact with their environment and so be able to assimilate the knowledge received in classes. Educational establishments have at their disposal new models or forms of learning like innovative school in Peru that work well today that some use the technology or internet platforms like Duolingo or khan academy that have worked successfully in other countries and leave behind the old-fashioned model. Another solution is to provide artistic education that helps children and young people to develop their skills in any field of art, and students will have a better knowledge because they will receive more subjects that maybe they had not seen before but that can be to the students liking. And last but not least to have time to interact between each class is very important because with this we can clear, assimilate or understand the classes as we will have some time to breathe the mind. Encouraging the student to be creative in class is an important step for developing countries to move forward because their students will have more opportunities to succeed in life and thus help their respective country. Animal Farm vs. The Godfather :: compare contrast

Animal Farm vs. The Godfather George Orwell and Mario Puzo wrote Animal Farm and â€Å"The Godfather† (from the book The Godfather), respectively, to express their disillusionment with society and human nature. Animal Farm, written in 1944, is a book that tells the animal fable of a farm in which the farm animals revolt against their human masters. It is an example of social criticism in literature in which Orwell satirized the events in Russia after the Bolshevik Revolution. He anthropomorphizes the animals, and eludes each one to a counter part in Russian history. The movie â€Å"The Godfather†, directed by Francis Ford Coppula, also typifies this kind of literature. Besides the central theme of mob life, is another prevalent theme, that of a revolution gone bad. He shows us that, unfortunately, human nature causes us to be vengeful and, for some of us, overly ambitious. Both of these works are similar in that both describe how, even with the best of intentions, our ambitions get the best of us. Both of the authors also demonstrate that violence and the Machiavellian attitude of â€Å"the ends justifying the means† are deplorable. George Orwell wrote Animal Farm, â€Å"†¦ to discredit the Soviet system by showing its inhumanity and its back-sliding from ideals [he] valued†¦Ã¢â‚¬ (Gardner, 106) Orwell noted, â€Å"there exists in England almost no literature of disillusionment with the Soviet Union.’ Instead, that country is viewed either with ignorant disapproval’ or with uncritical admiration.’† (Orwell, 10) The other animals take this utopian idea to heart, and one day actually do revolt and drive the humans out. Two pigs emerge as leaders: Napoleon and Snowball. They constantly argued, but one day, due to a difference over plans to build a windmill, Napoleon exiled Snowball. Almost immediately, Napoleon established a totalitarian government. Soon, the pigs began to get special favors, until finally, they were indistinguishable from humans to the other animals. Immediately the reader can begin to draw parallels between the book’s characters and the government in 1914-1944 Russia. For example, Old Major, who invented the idea of â€Å"animalism,† is seen as representing Karl Marx, the creator of communism. Snowball represents Trotksy, a Russian leader after the revolution. He was driven out by Napoleon, who represents Stalin, the most powerful figure in the country. Napoleon then proceeded to remove the freedoms of the animals, and established a dictatorship, under the public veil of â€Å"animalism.

Marketing Strategy of Best Buy

Syed Raheem Dr. Sonja Pollard-Mitchell MKT 301: Principles of Marketing 3 March 2010 Marketing Strategy at a Big Box Electronics Store: BEST BUY Consumer behavior is defined in a variety of ways such as â€Å"the dynamic interaction of affect and cognition, behavior and environmental events by which human beings conduct the exchange aspects of their lives. † by the American Marketing Association. (2008). In a simpler form, consumer behavior can be explained as the actions of consumers and the different approaches a person may take to decide what to buy and the decision making process. The decision making process can be effected by many factors all related to a person or persons lifestyle. Determining that behavior can be confusing and marketers need to use research techniques to understand the consumer. Understanding the intent to buy, buying process and post purchase issues from a marketing perspective raises many questions and is an in-depth process. â€Å"The basic marketing concept hold’s that firms exist to satisfy consumers’ needs. † (2004, Solomon). Once that basic concept is understood, an organization can focus on key goals to achieve a competitive advantage. Marketing strategies are used to gain better understanding of the market, consumers, environment, supply and demand and competition. The behaviors of consumers such as personality, emotions, attitudes, learning style, and perception of the consumer helps companies design their marketing techniques. External influences are also need to be studied and factors such as culture and sub-culture, demographics, social status, and family structure helps understand the decision making process of the consumer’s behavior. For marketing strategy to succeed, the insight to the consumer’s decision-making process is a good starting point. One of the many tools used for knowing consumer behavior are the four P’s of marketing, the product, place, price and promotion. By knowing the concepts of the four P’s marketers, build a strategy that can be used to achieve objectives necessary to meet companies marketing goals. Through awareness, a consumer can be more knowledgeable in buying behavior if an understanding of the four P’s of marketing are considered. [pic] Such strategies are very common in big box electronics stores such as BEST BUY. They also gave scholarships to the students all over the world. â€Å"Best Buy stores have awarded over $13 million in scholarships to nearly 11,000 students nationwide†. In this modern world, where every day new technologies are coming up and frequently they are becoming outdated. Under this scenario, the Best buy company has to eep itself up to date and must have to keep watch out for the new technologies. In this way the company can survive under intense competition. The biggest competitors of Best Buy Company are Dell, Wal-Mart, HH Gregg and all those retailers which are supplying those products on reasonable prices. The company has also brought some changes in their business to stay in the top line. Like, they also o ffers their products online as other companies are doing to help overcome online competitors, Best Buy allows consumers to purchase their items online. Consumers then have an option of having the product shipped to their home or picking it up at a local Best Buy store. Best Buy has recently established several new partnerships bringing new products to their stores. Apple, Dell, and Napster are some of the new partnerships. Best Buy became the first retailer in the US to be able to sell the Apple iPhone. Apple sent trainers to each store in order to make each employee more knowledgeable on the iPhone. They became the only retailer able to sell Dell computers. They also recently bought in to Napster in order to try to increase their subscribers and expand the capabilities in the digital downloading business. Best Buy also bought 50% of a company called Carphone Warehouse in Europe, which was done to expand Best Buy stores into European countries. These very strategic decisions by Best Buy were another successful marketing tool. They became an exclusive place for some of the products like Dell computers and Apple iPhone. Their strategy bought in many new customers as well as increased their repeated customer’s sales. Best Buy has a certain way of targeting their customers by separating them into several different lifestyle groups. The four groups include Urban Trendsetters, Upscale Suburban, Middle America and Empty Nesters. Most of the paper advertisements have a blue background with several yellows and reds in order to grab the consumer’s attention. Pirates of the Caribbean Essay

There dynamic personalities of the many characters in Pirates of the Caribbean are a huge part of what made the movie so successful. Among those characters, there are some who contribute more to the plot by their actions and some who affect the other characters by their mere presence. Captain Barbosa and the Commodore have some obvious differences that divide them in the movie, but their similarities are much more important. As a pair of comic alazons, Barbosa and the Commodore play an important role in providing basis for comparison against Captain Jack Sparrow and further complicate the love story in the movie. Captain Barbosa is interesting character in that his actions are often represented in an amateur light. It is important remember the introduction of Barbosa if one is to understand his character. It is important to note that he is originally Jack Sparrow’s first mate, which immediately relegates Barbosa to a subordinate and thus, amateur position. He never really grows out of that and through the rest of the movie and there is never much indication that he is capable, either. One such example where this is evident occurs when Barbosa makes the mistake of thinking that Elizabeth is the daughter of Bootstrap Bill Turner. By attempting this important blood ritual using the wrong person, Barbosa shows just how much of an impostor he actually is. In addition to that, one of the primary characteristics of a comic alazon is their unique ability to get in the way of the primary love scene in the movie. In this case, Barbosa’s constant meddling with Elizabeth, Jack, and William spurns a host of different love-filled possibilities in the film. Like Captain Barbosa, the Commodore is an interesting character who has a big role in the film. His primary role as impostor comes from his relationship with Elizabeth. He sets out to marry her and the film allows him to get very close, but ultimately she settles on Will Turner as her true love. This sets up the Commodore as something of a joke from the very beginning. In addition, he can be seen as a comic alazon because of his failed methods in finding Elizabeth when she has been captured by Barbosa. It is interesting to note that the Commodore is completely against piracy, which is something of a strange idea considering how common it was during the movie’s time. It was almost as if he was on a mission to stop something that he had absolutely no ability to stop. The commodore is similar to Barbosa in many ways and the movie adeptly points this out. These two are similar in that they serve as a foil for Will Turner in his relationship with Elizabeth. In addition, both are seen as something of jokes, and they are not taken seriously by the other characters even though the one thing they want more than anything is to be taken seriously. In a way, Jack Sparrow just toys with both the Commodore and with Barbosa and though he is always in reach of them, he manages to make them look foolish and escape at the same time. This is the one reason why they are important to the plot. The basic characteristics of the two characters make them very different simply based upon the fact that Barbosa is a pirate who is hurting Elizabeth, while the Commodore is against piracy and loves Barbosa. Those things are purely superfluous to the story, though, as the more important theme has to be drawn both characters’ abilities to look foolish and completely inept at the same time. All in all, these characters are incredibly important to the story’s development. Though their differences are pronounced, their similarities are even more important. On both sides of the spectrum, they serve as something to laugh at and people for the main characters to constantly toy with for the entirety of the film.
